The construction sector in Yemen, despite being significantly impacted by political and economic crises and the effects of war, continues to be a crucial sector for the country’s recovery and reconstruction efforts. This RYE Policy Brief analyzes the evolution and challenges of Yemen’s contracting sector, including security issues, weak legislation, and corruption, while emphasizing its resilience and the crucial role of local contractors in future reconstruction. It also explores the adoption of green building standards, the sector’s potential for job creation—especially for youth—and the need to enhance women's participation, concluding with recommendations for a comprehensive, stakeholder-inclusive approach.
