CARPO and the HOME Institute (Horn of Africa and Middle East Institute) are pleased to invite you to the very first webinar in our new series “The Middle East and Africa in Flux”.
This inaugural webinar on Deconstructing Agency and Mediation Efforts in Middle East-Sub-Saharan African relations is organized in cooperation with the Muscat Policy Council (MPC).
While the two sub-regions of Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East have known centuries of shared connections, in today’s context of multipolarity and great power competition their relations are evolving. From trade, investment, and infrastructure projects to mediation efforts and cultural diplomacy, the discussion will highlight how these engagements are reshaping agency, diplomacy, and strategic autonomy in a multipolar world.
The webinar will place a particular focus on Middle East engagement in mediation efforts and conflict mitigation and resolution in Sub-Saharan Africa. Bringing together leading experts from academia, policy, and civil society, the webinar will offer new insights into the complexities and opportunities of these cross-regional relations.
