CARPO Reports

Bridging the Middle East and Sub-Saharan Africa

Strengthening Partnerships for Sustainable Development

15 Report 07.09.2026

Relations between West Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are shaped by a wide range of political, economic, and security ties that connect both regions across the Red Sea and beyond. Against this backdrop, the CARPO Report brings together four policy-oriented contributions by graduate students, early-career scholars, and advanced researchers from the University of Nairobi, presented at the WASSAP Graduate Conference held in Nairobi in 2025. The report explores key dimensions of contemporary West Asia-Sub-Saharan Africa relations, including regional security cooperation, labor mobility, renewable energy partnerships, and peacebuilding. By foregrounding African perspectives and policy-relevant analysis, the publication highlights how questions of security, mobility, development, and sustainability transcend conventional regional boundaries. It thus demonstrates the value of collaborative research in advancing a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping interregional relations today.
