Sina Winkel

Project Manager

Sina Winkel joined CARPO in November 2019 to work at the interface of environmental and health issues. She studied Geography B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Development & Globalization with a focus on Medical Geography at the University of Bonn. During that time, she focused on mental health issues in relation to environmental change, humanitarian aid and migration. Before joining CARPO, she lived in Kyrgyzstan where she worked with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on issues such as improving perinatal health and digitalization in health and social protection in Asia and Eastern Europe. During her employment with a Kyrgyz NGO, her work focused on adoption release prevention, training of health professionals, and strengthening families with children with disabilities or chronic illnesses.

She is passionate about the concepts of planetary health, therapeutic landscapes, and solastalgia and her regional expertise is on Central Asia as well as the Middle East. University research trips have taken her to Tanzania, Argentina and Russia.

Focus & Topics: Global Health, Planetary Health/ One Health, Emotional Response to Environmental Change.
