Call for Tenders: Yemeni Artists for “Science Communication for Social Cohesion in Yemen”

German-Yemeni Workshops in Amman, Jordan, 14–18 August 2023 & 23–26 October 2023

The Gender-Development Research & Studies Center (GDRSC) at Sana’a University, Yemen, and CARPO – Center for Applied Research in Partnership with the Orient in Bonn, Germany, are co-implementing a project on science communication for gender equality and social cohesion funded by the German Academic Exchange Service. The objectives of this project are: a) to initiate and/or intensify the networks and cooperation between higher education institutions and non-university partners, including German and Yemeni researchers and students, civil society stakeholders and artists in the fields of science communication, gender equality and social cohesion in Yemen; b) to develop innovative (knowledge) products promoting gender equality and social cohesion in Yemen; and c) to develop strategies for knowledge transfer between higher education institutions and non-university partners.

As part of this project, GDRSC and CARPO are organizing a joint 3-day workshop in August and a 2-day follow-up workshop in October in Amman, Jordan, bringing together German and Yemeni students with a civil society background, representatives of civil society organizations from Germany and Yemen, as well as Yemeni artists. The aim of the first workshop is 1) to jointly assess and discuss challenges to social cohesion in Yemen; and 2) to develop ideas for promoting social cohesion through artistic expression. In the second workshop, we want to 3) select the artwork produced since the first workshop and to develop publication/ brochures in English, German and Arabic; as well as to 4) jointly identify avenues of publishing the results of this workshop through the development of a communication and promotion strategy.
